Was waren wir hoffnungsvoll. Aber leider hatten wir die Planung ohne den Schiebetürlieferanten gemacht. Im Oktober war das Boot fast fertig. Und vielleicht wäre es auch fertig geworden, wenn die Schiebetür gekommen wäre.
Der Lieferant für die Schiebetür zog die Lieferung immer weiter nach hinten. Im Oktober hieß es dann Dezember. Wir wollten aber nicht ohne Tür los. Wie sollen wir das Boot irgendwo hinlegen und von Bord gehen, mit allen Sachen an Bord, wenn wir nicht abschließen können? Nein, das wollten wir nicht. Also haben wir den Plan geändert und uns entschieden, nicht im November über die Biskaya zu gehen und nicht die ARC Januar machen (die November ARC hatten wir schon im August abgehakt). Stattdessen sollte es nach England für die Saison 2023 gehen und dann im Herbst auf die Kanaren. Das ist auch jetzt der Stand.
Nichts ist so schlecht, dass es nicht eine gute Seite hätte. Man muss sie eben suchen und finden. Und wir wurden fündig. Maren kann Skip mit nach England nehmen. Mit dem Auto kann er ohne Quarantäne einreisen. happy wife happy life heisst es ja. Und ich ? In England gibt es ja Regatten. Und hatte nicht Allegra, der Nigel Irens 78 Fuß Katamaran das letzte Fastnet gewonnen? Und da gibt es doch viele Mutlihullregatten. Schnell wurde ich fündig, der RORC (Royal Offshore Racing CLub) lässt bei seinen Regatten nicht nur Monos zu sondern auch Multihulls.
Dann kann ich ja an die tolle Saison 2016 anknüpfen. Myth of Malham Regatta, De Guingand Bowl, Channel Race usw. Und dann ist ja auch wieder Fastnet Jahr! Also wollen wir die Südküste erkunden und dann auch 6 Regatten segeln mit dem Höhepunkt Fastnet Race. Das ist doch was für Papas Sohn. Und dabei lernen wir dann auch das Boot gut kennen und merzen alle Schwachstellen aus.
Wir freuen uns schon darauf, an der Südküste entlang zu segeln und alle unsere englischen Freunde zu treffen. Vor Fowley zu ankern bei Peter und Nicky und in Salcome Rob und Jo zu treffen, um nur einige zum nennen.
Im September werden wir dann zu den Kanaren aufbrechen und dort noch einige Zeit verbringen, bevor wir am 19.11. mit der ARC den Atlantik überqueren.
Da wir jetzt ein Jahr verloren haben, zieht es uns bereit 2024 in den Pazifik. Wir werden wieder mit der World ARC segeln. Das hat uns riesigen Spass gemacht und wir werden Babsea wieder treffen. Helmut und Babsi segeln das Boot ihrer Kinder mit der World ARC um die Welt. Was für ein schöner Zufall.
Der Plan steht bis Neuseeland – dort werden wir die Cyclone Saison verbringen. Auch dort habe ich noch zu tun – ein unfinished business. Das Coastal Classic Race konnte ich 2019 nicht mitmachen, da Schwiegermutter 90 wurde. Jetzt muss es aber sein, schliesslich ist die neue Nica von Roger Hill aus Neuseeland entworfen worden, und sie muss sich gegen ihre Schwestern Cation und Kotuku behaupten. Auch Erle, der uns am Anfang des Projekts beraten hat, wird uns mit seiner Apache einen harten Wettbewerb liefern. Hauptsache Covid macht uns diesmal keinen Strich durch die Rechnung.
Und wie geht es dann weiter? Keine Ahnung, oder besser gesagt: Es gibt viele Optionen. Hawaii, Kap Hoorn, Australien, Neukaledonien, das TransPac Race und so weiter.

How were we going to put the boat somewhere and get off the boat, with all the stuff on board, if we couldn’t lock it? No, we didn’t want to do that. So we changed the plan and decided not to go across the Bay of Biscay in November and not to do the January ARC (we had already checked off the November ARC in August). Instead, it was to go to England for the 2023 season and then to the Canary Islands in the fall. That’s also the status now.
Nothing is so bad that it does not have a good side. You just have to look for it and find it. And we found it. Maren can take Skip with her to England. With the car he can enter without quarantine. Happy wife happy life they say. And me ? In England there are regattas. And didn’t Allegra, the Nigel Irens 78 foot catamaran win the last Fastnet? And there are many mutlihull regattas. I quickly found what I was looking for, the RORC (Royal Offshore Racing CLub) allows not only monos but also multihulls in their regattas.

So we want to explore the south coast and then also sail 6 regattas with the highlight Fastnet Race. That’s something for daddy’s son. And we will also get to know the boat well and eliminate all weak points.
We are looking forward to sailing along the south coast and meeting all our English friends. Anchoring off Fowley with Peter and Nicky and meeting Rob and Jo in Salcome, just to name a few.
We will then leave for the Canaries in September and spend some more time there before crossing the Atlantic on the ARC on 19/11.
Now that we have lost a year, we are drawn to the Pacific ready in 2024. We will sail with the World ARC again. It was a lot of fun and we will meet Babsea again. Helmut and Babsi are sailing their children’s boat around the world with the World ARC. What a nice coincidence.
The plan is up to New Zealand – we will spend the Cyclone season there. I still have work to do there too – unfinished business. I couldn’t do the Coastal Classic Race in 2019 because mother-in-law turned 90. But now it has to be, after all the new Nica is designed by Roger Hill from New Zealand, and she has to compete against her sisters Cation and Kotuku. Erle, who advised us at the beginning of the project, will also give us a tough competition with his Apache. The main thing is that Covid doesn’t throw a spanner in the works this time.
And what happens next? No idea, or rather: there are many options. Hawaii, Cape Horn, Australia, New Caledonia, the TransPac Race and so on.

Na mal sehen, vielleicht komme ich die ARC auch mit, auf 78 ft. Monohull, die ich mal rundveredelt und getunt hab vor/beim Neubau. Ihr seid ja sicher schon voll. Wenn Ihr in Pazifik / Südsee geht, müsst Ihr jedenfalls unbedingt in die Outer Fidschi’s – der Mega – Hammer, dürft abr dann nicht schon in der Hauptstadt SUVA ausklarieren, sondern müsst einklariert bleiben.
